Flickr is down and flickrbabes firefox extension

*         1 votes

Well, looks like flickr is doing some maintenance, and the site is currently down. It seems like one or few servers are having problems. Their blog says they’re solving this, but it may take a while. As all of the photos of this beautiful site are hosted at flickr, it looks like flickrbabes isn’t displaying a lot of photos. I hope this issue will get solved, and if so, that the photo urls don’t change, if so, I guess I’ll have to do something about it.

Meanwhile, I have another thing I’d like to announce: I’m working on a firefox extension for flickrbabes. A simple one, but hopefully you guys will like it.

Flickrbabes / pda version

*         2 votes

I just installed a plugin, and made a few modifications. What will it do? If you browse flickrbabes from a pda, it’ll show a simpler version of the site. I just started tweaking it, and it’s only been tested in my palm. So, if there’s people browsing flickrbabes from a palm, phone, etc, and you see anything that can be improved, please let me know :)

Thanks.

Lost photo, found photo

So, it looks like Deymus found the photo he was looking for. Deymus-fan left a comment with a link to those photos I was talking about, and it seems one of them is the one Deymus was looking for.

Thank you :)

Lost photo, can you help us find it?

*         2 votes

I hope any of you guys can help us. I’m sure you’ve seen Deymus‘ photos, he’s a great photographer, and well, his models are very very pretty. But he recently lost a photo of one of his models holding an ipod. Don’t ask me how, maybe the photo just ran away.

So, he asked me if I could ask the readers of flickrbabes, maybe one of you saved it to your harddrive and can send it again to his owner?? I hope one of you did saved this photo.

Please help, the photographer misses his photo very much :)

Leave a comment if you have any info.

Go Ecuador!

Well, fuckin’ Beckham scored a goal, and that means we’re out of the worldcup. Good luck to England, and well done :) (though now that Ecuador’s out, I hope Germany wins the cup ;) )

Anyway, Ecuador did an excelent job, and everybody here (Ecuador) is happy about it. We lost, but it’s not the end of the world. The team did a lot, and I’m proud of them.

Go Ecuador! YOU RULE! :D

answer to feedback and updates

*         1 votes

Hello people.

I wanted to answer to some of the request and feedback I’ve got from people.

Tagging and categorizing
Tagging is a more flexible way to categorize photos, however, it also requires way more work than just add each photo to a couple of categories. Tagging was in my initial plans, though for the moment I’m dropping it. I’ll probably use the tags that were originally added to the photos by the photo authors (in flickr), as I have that data stored in my database. The problem there is that not all photos are tagged, but at least the ones that are will work, so you can see photos by tags.

Also, I just added a few categories, and updated all the photos until December 2005. The categories are few and simple. I guess there are so many ways of categorizing the photos, I just decided these worked for me, and were easy to update. (check them out, they’re on the sidebar).

Asians

I read a comment that said that while all photos of white girls seem to be amateurs, all photos from asians are from pornstars. I really don’t know, and it might be so, but I don’t do it on purpose. If you check the photos, you’ll see that most photos of asian girls are from the same couple of flickr authors. It’s just that I’m subscribed to their photos so I check them very often. I think this happens because I move through a few groups and users (and users’ contacts) at flickr, and most of them are either from South-america, or from North-america. I guess I could broaden my circle, but I don’t know how. Therefore, if you find any cool photos, no matter from where, as long as it’s of a pretty girl, send it my way (there’s a contact form in the site now).

African Americans

I’ve also got the comment that I don’t post any african american girls. I really did notice this, but I don’t do it because I don’t want to, or any stupid reason you may think of. I just don’t find any at flickr. Again, I guess this happens because of the way I browse flickr, always around the same users and users’ favorites. So, if you find any cool photos, no matter from where, as long as it’s of a pretty girl, send it my way (there’s a contact form in the site now).

I make no difference in race, religion, politics, or whatever at this site. All that matters is that it is a good photo, and the girl in the photo is a goddess, like every other one at this site :) Remember you guys can contribute, just send the urls and I’ll see if I post the photos.

Creative Commons

Another visitor said that I should add the creative commons logo (or copyright sign, depending on the license of the photo) below the photo. That’s actually a good idea, and I’m going to implement it.

Remember that all of the photos posted here are copyrighted by their respective authors (every photo links to the author’s page), so it’s not like you can use them freely for whatever you want. Some of them are licensed under creative commons, which means you can use them freely under certain conditions, as long as you give credit to the original author.

I’ll have to get that info from flickr and update the photos. As there are more than a thousand photos here, it’ll take me some time.

Pocket PC version

Yes, I’m working on a few other ways to display the site. It’s not that hard, but it takes time, and as I work on this site when I have free time (and I don’t have time), it takes me longer. I’m not getting paid for working on this blog, so, it’s not really my main priority :)

Slow or fast

Some say the blog is slower than when it was at blogger, some say it’s faster. I don’t know, do you know? :) Personally, I think that in the beginning it was way slower, but suddenly it got faster. I also made a change in the scripts, so it should render at least 3 times faster. Also, now the archive photos are smaller, so that pages will load faster. Anyway, I guess I optimized the scripts as much as I can, though there’s still work to do, which is in my todo list, so it’s far from finished. It also depends on the hosting. I’m using dreamhost, which is cheap, and apparently, good enough. I don’t know if a dedicated server would work better, but then again, that costs, and well, I just don’t have the money to pay monthly for that kind of hosting (I think it’s around 79 to 100 bucks a month).

Why you thank me?

I received a lot of comments thanking me for the site, and that people are loving it. I’m glad, but remember, this site is nothing without the photos, and none of the photos are mine. You like a photo, click on a photo, tell the author how good and talented he/she is, and maybe, if you see they don’t have a pro account at flickr, buy them one (it’s like 24 usd a year or something like that), maybe that’d motivate them to post even more photos, which, if they let me, i’d post here.

Ok, now I’m going to watch the Argentina Vs Mexico game. And guys, tomorrow’s game is Ecuador Vs England. I’m from Ecuador, so you better support my team, pray, and scream for them, hopefully we win, because if we don’t I won’t post any photos in 3 months :)

Small update to save bandwith

*         2 votes

I guess most of the flickrbabes addicts see this site with their rss readers. But I guess there’s people visiting the site anyway.

So, I was playing with the blog, and I made an small change: if you go to an archive page (by day or category), the photos will have a smaller size, while if you visit the homepage, or click on any of the page numbers at the bottom (or the ‘previous entries button’), you’ll see the normal size photos. I did this so people could browse the archives faster (as the photos would obviously load faster), and of course, to be nice to flickr, who are nice enough with me letting me keep blogging, because, as you know, all photos are hosted there, which means you guys are using a lot of their bandwith. So, hopefully, this change will save them some bandwith, I’d like to know if it’d work, but it’s hard to contact them (if by any chance any flickr employee is subscribed to the blog, I’d love if you could give me some feedback).

Again, if you’re getting the photos via rss, you won’t notice any change.

GO ECUADOR!!!! :)

          0 votes

Germany and Ecuador are the first teams through to the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup following the South American team’s 3-0 defeat of Costa Rica in Hamburg.

Ecuador lead the section with a goal difference of 5-0 with the host nation on 5-2. The teams meet in their final group fixture in Berlin on 20 June.

For the ones who don’t know what this is about, it’s about futbol (soccer), one of the three best things in the world (after futbol, there’s women, after women, beer)

So, I think I’ll be celebrating today :)

FLICKRBABES UPDATED

* * *     2 votes

Hello flickrbabes readers :)

Have you noticed that I updated the blog? I’m using wordpress now, so I guess I have more power to keep developing the site.

There’s still a bunch of work to do, and probably you see nothing different here than what was on the old blog at blogger. That’s because there isn’t anything new, for now.

Well, in the backend, I developed a cool plugin to make my life easier and make it easier to post photos from flickr. I still have to work on it, but once it’s useable, I guess I’ll publish it so anyone can use it.

Soon you’ll see new stuff here, as: photos categorized by tags, be able to see photos by author, see who’s the most popular photo author, maybe a rating system, and of course, the damn forum I’ve been promising.

Please leave a comment here, if you have any ideas, suggestions, bug reports, or if you simply like the new blog. Be patient though, as I’ll be working on it when I have time.

Oh, this new blog also means I’ll probably be able to post more than 12 photos a day, which was the limit I had at blogger.

I’ll add a contact form, so you can suggest photos, or just send me feedback. Also, I’m making a todo page, so you guys know what I’m working on.

So, keep reading, and hopefully, flickr lets us keep this blog for a long time.
